Loving Me

A Poem

Love me?
How can I love me when I don’t know me?

I know what I should be
I know what I should weigh
I know what I should do
I know what I should say

I know what I want to be
I know what I’m not
I know want to do
I know what I’ve got

But how do I know who I am?
How can I love me when I don’t know me?
I don’t actually love me.
I love what people think of me.
I love the way people look at me.
I love when people listen to me.

I love the reflection of myself in other people’s eyes
I love the reflection of myself in other people’s words
I love the reflection of myself in other peoples actions
But I don’t know what I really look like to myself

So no, I don’t love me.
I don’t know me.

But it’s not too late to figure it out.

This poem is featured in Episode 5 of the Align by Line Podcast.
