How To Retain Full Focus And Operate At Peak Performance

Let’s talk about autopilot.

Many people in the world are pretty much continually operating on autopilot. Whenever we’re doing tasks that we’ve done a lot, we often end up not thinking much about what we’re doing.

An example is driving. After you learned how to drive and got your drivers’ license, people hardly ever think as much when they’re driving.

For the most part, being on autopilot won’t do you any harm. However, it can hinder your growth.

Playing video games is where I realized how distracted I was all the time and what I needed to do to be the best at whatever I do.

Gaming is in my blood. In particular, there is one game called League of Legends that I always come back to.

In League of Legends, there is a competitive ranking system. There are ten ranks, each with four subdivisions except the top three ranks.

Something like Diamond is better than Platinum, and a subdivision within Platinum (e.g., Platinum I) would be better than Platinum IV.

A few months ago, I hit the highest rank I ever hit in my ten years of playing this game. Diamond II was the rank I hit. I was basically in the top 0.05% of players in North America for those that don't play League of Legends.

I would say that I had the potential to go pro if I continued to practice and improve. But I didn’t.

In League of Legends, if you are ranked Diamond or higher, there is something called elo decay, where your rank will slowly deteriorate if you don’t play any ranked games.

Due to my focus on other projects, such as my online businesses and real estate, I stopped playing for a few months. Thus, I elo decayed all the way to Platinum I, the top 1.5% of players in North America.

Recently, I got back into playing ranked, but things weren’t as easy as I thought they would be.
