Why I love retail

If a new shop is called 24/7
Don’t celebrate yet
It might just have been opened on
24/7, the 24th day in July.

The shop has all the yummy
things I like to cook,
Spices to make the food tastier
packs of instant soup for late nights.

I think some baby powder spilled
in the store, so it was fragrant.
I think retail is overreacting.
Shopping is everyone’s favorite exercise.

Starstruck Indians saw supermarkets for the first time thanks to Big Bazaar. It was not just a place to buy groceries, it was a place to buy new clothes as well. It was a standing joke that you’d go into a Big Bazaar to buy wholewheat flour and come out with an entire wardrobe and a washing machine to wash it in.

I do hope retail comes back, and properly, even if we do have to keep our masks on!

P.S. In the picture, my daughter is demanding to go back in, where my mom is, instead of coming to the parking lot with me. I am taking the picture. The security guy is telling her, in Kannada, that she can’t go back in because this is an exit, and she’s objecting, in Hindi.
