Growing up in such a media dominated society, it is extremely valuable to have a great personal brand. Someone who I believe has one of the most recognizable personal brands is Elon Musk. He is one of the most well-known humans in the world right now, as he is the CEO and Founder of both Tesla and SpaceX. He uses his sheer intelligence to help enhance the public image of the company’s as well as to maintain and increase stock price. However, his personality on social media, Twitter specifically, is almost a polar opposite to the Elon he displays to shareholders. I view his personal Twitter profile as his escape from reality, almost as if he is trying to relate to the average human. He posts his opinions freely, is constantly making jokes and posting memes, all while continuing to preserve the well-being of his billion dollar companies. For example, on the 18th anniversary of 9/11, he sent out a tweet that said, “The only thing beyond Ludicrous is Plaid.” A totally lighthearted joke on a day that brings such sorrow to humans all across the globe, not something a normal CEO does. I believe Elon is a perfect example of how to maintain a “work/life balance” in the fast-paced world we all live in today. I think he is an ideal person to emulate for a public profile.
