Trading simulator to increase your skills faster

Our team focused on this idea because first of all we like trading, and we decided to create a platform for people to continue learning and improving their skills in a simple way without having to download complex platforms.

I am a market analyst and i specialize in a theory of analysis called elliot waves, almost three years ago i started trading and as everything has been a difficult process full of ups and downs but it is a wonderful profession that gives you many benefits and advantages that other jobs do not have, about 9 months ago i decided to make a break in my normal life and i proposed to immerse myself in the world of programming, this is how i came to Holberton School a software academy, why i chose to do it? Well, after a lot of thought I realized that knowing how to trade but also knowing how to program would take me a step further in my abilities, with programming I can create anything and that caught my attention.

After entering Holberton to finish my career we had to make a final project, and obviously as I like trading because I wanted to develop something focused on that topic, was so when talking to my partner evert and jonatan who also like the subject, we decided to create our project and gave the name of simtac.

We decided to use for the frontend HTML, CSS and pure Javascript without using any framework since we wanted to go deeper and learn more about that language.

To incorporate our graphics we had to use a private library that provides the functionality we needed and we asked for access to it thanks to tradingview.

In order for our graphics to show candlestick charts in real time, we had to use websockets.

For the backend we decided to use Django.

The database we used for this project was MYSQL.

The website is responsive and compatible with mobile.

We have different graphs of crypto currencies.

At the beginning of the project our idea was to create a training trading platform with a market data replay, which meant that the user could choose a date in the past and be able to reproduce that day as if it were a real day, to develop this functionality I researched a lot about the subject on the internet and as our platform wanted to focus on cryptomonies, after a long time researching I found the solution with a historical data provider, but there was a problem to develop this functionality in our platform we had to pay a high amount of money for this data and our budget was not enough, so we decided to only implement real time data through the websocket that gave us connection to the cryptocompare API, the challenge was difficult because we did not have much knowledge about the websockets but reading a lot of documentation and debugging we could give a temporary solution to our project.

This project made me learn a lot, especially working as a team despite the difficulty of working remotely on the subject of COVID, we learned to communicate and organize our responsibilities and when a partner had difficulties, we all helped each other to solve the problem, This as it made me grow as a person and as a partner I give more importance to this topic because the rest of “languages and technologies” are learned in any way.

As an engineer I was able to develop the ability to constantly learn new things thanks to Holberton’s methodology.

I think this project opens the way for me to continue focusing on this topic and to be able to create more products about trading.
